Special Interests

Czech opera has always been Paul Mauffray’s main passion. He speaks fluent Czech. He has worked as an assistant conductor on over 8 Janacek productions with Sir Charles Mackerras, Jiri Belohlavek, Bohumil Gregor, Leon Botstein, and Kirill Petrenko at the Prague National Theatre, Janacek Opera Brno, Salzburg Festival, Bard Festival, and Theater an der Wien.  He has recorded with the Czech Philharmonic and Gabriela Benackova, Dolores Zajick, Ben Heppner, and Renee Fleming and, at the invitation of Valery Gergiev, prepared the singers and orchestra at the Mariinsky Theater in Janacek’s Makropulos Case.
