Projects

Paul Mauffray reconstructed The Burlesque Opera Tabasco by George Whitefield Chadwick from autograph manuscripts. This unpublished comic operetta was performed throughout America in 1894 and has not been heard since then.  The McIlhenny Company is supporting this project and has sponsored performances of music from Tabasco with multiple orchestras

 

Noteworthy

  • The American Prize for Professional Orchestra Conductors: Honored Artist (2022),  2nd prize (2021 & 2018), 3rd prize (2019, 2016 & 2015)

  • Elected honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity's prestigious Alpha Chapter (2018) and awarded status as a Signature Sinfonian in recognition of his conducting and musical advocacy, and for his work on reviving George Whitefield Chadwick’s burlesque operetta “Tabasco"

  • Bela Bartok International Opera Conducting Competition (Romania) - Second Prize (2007) and Finalist (2005)

Special Interests

Czech opera has always been Paul Mauffray’s main passion. He speaks fluent Czech. He has worked as an assistant conductor on over 8 Janacek productions with Sir Charles Mackerras, Jiri Belohlavek, Bohumil Gregor, Leon Botstein, and Kirill Petrenko at the Prague National Theatre, Janacek Opera Brno, Salzburg Festival, Bard Festival, and Theater an der Wien.  He has recorded with the Czech Philharmonic and Gabriela Benackova, Dolores Zajick, Ben Heppner, and Renee Fleming and, at the invitation of Valery Gergiev, prepared the singers and orchestra at the Mariinsky Theater in Janacek’s Makropulos Case.
